The WA police pay deal at a glance
Three rises totalling 12.75%, a big lift in shift allowances, and a clock now running to June 2027.
WA police pay is set by the Western Australia Police Force Industrial Agreement 2024. The WA Industrial Relations Commission registered it on 13 May 2025 ([2025] WAIRC 00286). It replaced the 2022 agreement, consolidated the Police Award 1965, and covers about 7,286 officers and Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers.

Three offers to a deal: how the 2024 agreement was won
The 2024 agreement took three offers. The WA Police Union Board accepted the government's third offer on 13 December 2024: 12.75% over three years, described by the government as the largest increase in police shift allowances in more than 20 years. Registration followed in May 2025, with increases payable from 1 July 2024.
- 1
2022 agreement rates in force
Before July 2024The 2022 agreement's rates applied until the new deal: a probationary constable earned $83,544.
- 2
Third offer accepted
13 December 2024The WAPU Board accepted 12.75% over 3 years with a large rise in shift allowances.
- 3
Agreement registered
13 May 2025Registered by the WAIRC ([2025] WAIRC 00286, AG 24 of 2025), with increases back-dated to 1 July 2024.
- 4
Second rise
1 July 20254%. Probationary constable $91,230.
- 5
Third and final rise
1 July 20263.75%. Probationary constable $94,651.
The details of the first two offers aren't in our sources, so we can't say how much the final deal improved on them. What's clear is that the shift allowance increase was the centrepiece: those flat payments matter a lot to junior officers on rotating rosters.
Every scheduled rise, with dates
The three rises applied to every rank and increment. Because they compound, 5%, 4% and 3.75% add up to more than 12.75%: 13.3% from the 2022 rates to July 2026.

'Before Jul 2024' is the 2022 agreement rate printed as 'current salary' in the 2024 agreement. Commissioned officer salaries include an allowance for work beyond 40 hours and for weekends and public holidays (cl 10.1(b)).
The recruiting site shows exactly the July 2026 figures. OIC and grandfathered Category A, B and C sergeant scales are also in the agreement; see every row on the WA police salary page.

For a Senior Constable on the base rate, the three rises are worth $13,580 a year in total, about $522 a fortnight before tax. Increments add more: officers move up one increment after each 2 years' satisfactory service.

Shift allowances: the biggest rise in 20 years
WA pays flat dollars per shift, not a percentage, so these rates matter as much as salary for rostered officers.

Paid pro rata for 9, 10 and 12-hour shifts (a 10-hour shift is 1.25 times). A 12-hour shift with 8 hours in the 20:00 to 05:30 span gets the night allowance plus 50% of the evening allowance. Pre-2024 rates aren't in our data.
On our calculation, an officer working three 10-hour night shifts a fortnight earns about $12,340 a year in night allowance alone at 2026 rates. Because the amount is the same for every rank, it's worth proportionally more to a constable than to a senior sergeant.
No public-holiday multiplier found
We didn't find a separate public-holiday penalty rate in the 2024 agreement. Weekend day work is covered by the weekend day shift allowance. Check public-holiday pay with WAPU or payroll rather than relying on another force's rules.
What else the agreement does
Beyond the rises and shift allowances, the 2024 agreement consolidated the old Police Award 1965 into one instrument and set out the formulas payroll uses. Knowing them helps you check your own pay.

Regional pay sits partly outside the agreement
District allowance for regional officers comes from the public-service General Agreement through cl 19, not from a police-specific table. On 2 July 2026 the CPSU/CSA reported improved public-sector district allowance rates from 1 July 2026, including a new Grade 6 of $12,020 for Fitzroy Crossing, Marble Bar, Nullagine and Wyndham. Whether police receive those new rates isn't confirmed, so check with WAPU before counting on them.
Other regional benefits listed on the recruiting site include free housing in the 56 Schedule G towns, extra annual leave, travel concessions and a one-off regional attraction payment. The attraction payment's amount isn't published and varies by location. Free housing in Schedule G towns is in the agreement; the attraction payment has no published dollar figure.
Strengths of the WA deal
- ✓Front-loaded: the biggest rise (5%) came first and compounds
- ✓Shift allowances lifted substantially for rostered officers
- ✓Back-dated to 1 July 2024 despite registration in May 2025
Gaps to know
- ✕No rise after July 2026, with the deal expiring in June 2027
- ✕Flat shift allowances only rise when a new agreement says so
- ✕Whether the new public-sector district allowance rates flow to police isn't confirmed

Calculated by us: (2024 rate − 2022 rate) × 316 ÷ 365. Base salary only, before tax. Shift allowance and overtime differences would add to it; any period after registration before payroll loaded the new rates would too.
Back pay is taxed when it's paid, using the ATO's method for back payments, so the payslip carrying it may show more tax than usual. Your end-of-year assessment uses your actual income for the year.
No rise after July 2026: the 2027 bargaining and the new wages policy
The 2024 agreement has nothing left to pay. Its nominal expiry is 30 June 2027, and clause 4 says negotiations for a replacement start 6 months before that, around December 2026. The agreement keeps operating after expiry until it's withdrawn, so pay won't fall, but it won't rise either until a new agreement is registered.
The back pay rules have changed
The Public Sector Wages Policy Statement 2026, issued on 26 May 2026, applies to WA Police Force agreements. It sets no fixed percentage cap, but says new agreements apply from registration, and the government only "may consider" retrospectivity to the previous expiry. The 2024 deal was back-dated to 1 July 2024; the next one may not be.
To show why timing matters, here's an illustration, not a forecast: no offer has been made. If a new agreement with a 3% first-year rise were registered 6 months after 30 June 2027 with no back pay, a Senior Constable on the base rate would miss out on about $1,736 ($115,722 × 3% × 6/12), plus the effect on overtime.
Under the 2026 policy, every month between expiry and registration may be a month you never get back.

How to check you're being paid correctly
WA's pay rules are simpler than most, which makes errors easier to spot. Check your latest payslip against this list and the July 2026 table.
- ✓ Your annual salary matches the July 2026 table (Constable 1st year $94,651; Senior Constable base $115,722).
- ✓ Your fortnightly pay is annual × 12 ÷ 313.
- ✓ Each 8-hour night shift pays $126.56, and longer shifts are paid pro rata.
- ✓ Overtime is time and a half for the first 3 hours, then double time, on annual ÷ 313 × 12 ÷ 80.
- ✓ You moved up an increment after 2 years' satisfactory service.
- ✓ Regional postings: district allowance, free housing in Schedule G towns and any attraction payment are paid as agreed.

Frequently asked questions
What pay rise did WA police get in 2026?
3.75% from 1 July 2026, the last of three rises under the 2024 agreement. A probationary constable (Constable 1st year) went from $91,230 to $94,651, and a Senior Constable on the base rate from $111,539 to $115,722.
Is there a WA police pay rise in 2027?
Not under the current agreement. Its last increase was 1 July 2026 and its nominal expiry is 30 June 2027. Any further rise needs a new agreement, which will be bargained under the Public Sector Wages Policy Statement 2026.
Will WA police get back pay if the next agreement is late?
Not necessarily. The 2026 wages policy, which applies to WA Police Force agreements, says new agreements apply from registration and that retrospectivity to the previous expiry is something the government 'may consider'. That's different from the 2024 agreement, whose increases were payable from 1 July 2024 even though it was registered in May 2025.
How much is the WA police night shift allowance?
$126.56 per 8-hour night shift from 1 July 2026 (cl 16.1), up from $117.28 in July 2024. It's a flat dollar amount, not a percentage of salary, and is paid pro rata for longer shifts: a 10-hour shift gets 1.25 times the 8-hour amount.
When do WA police negotiations start for the next agreement?
Clause 4 says negotiations for a replacement start 6 months before the 30 June 2027 expiry, so around December 2026. The agreement continues in force after expiry until it's replaced or withdrawn.
Is there a cap on WA police pay rises?
The Public Sector Wages Policy Statement 2026 (26 May 2026) sets no fixed percentage cap. It applies to WA Police Force agreements, says new agreements apply from registration, and treats back pay to the previous expiry as discretionary.
How often do WA police get pay increments?
On top of the annual rises, ranks with increments move up one increment after each 2 years' satisfactory service (cl 10.2). Constables move to the 3rd-year rate when they complete probation, but need 3 years' service before the 4th-year rate.
Who negotiates WA police pay?
The WA Police Union of Workers (WAPU) bargains with the State Government and the Commissioner of Police. The 2024 agreement was accepted by the WAPU Board and registered by the WA Industrial Relations Commission. It covers about 7,286 officers and Aboriginal Police Liaison Officers.
