We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy explains what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and a securely hashed password (managed by Google Firebase Authentication).
- Newsletter sign-ups: your email, optional first name, the page you signed up on, and the topics and state or force you chose.
- Purchases: what you bought and when. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach us.
- AI tool use: the text you submit is sent to Google's Gemini model to generate feedback. We keep a daily usage count to enforce limits, which expires after three days.
- Home loan enquiries: the contact and situation details you choose to give, and your consent to be contacted.
- Analytics: if enabled, Google Analytics records anonymised usage (pages viewed, device type, approximate location).
- Calculator inputs stay in your browser unless you choose to save a scenario to your account.
Where it's stored
Data is stored in Google Cloud (Firebase), which may process it outside Australia, including in the United States. Payments are processed by Stripe. Newsletters are sent through Kit (kit.com, a US email service), which holds your email address, your chosen topics and the page you signed up on. Police Pay Australia and its sister site Police Pay UK use the same Kit account, with the two mailing lists kept separate: signing up here never adds you to the UK list. We take reasonable steps to make sure these providers protect your information.
Who we share it with
We don't sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers above, and, for home loan enquiries, with the licensed broker partner named on the form, only when you've ticked the consent box. We may disclose information where required by law.
Emails
We only send newsletters to people who signed up. Every email says it is from Police Pay Australia and has a link to choose your topics or unsubscribe. You can also unsubscribe here, or manage your topics from your account once your email is verified.
Access, correction and deletion
You can ask for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete your account by emailing andrew@policepay.co.uk. If you're unhappy with how we've handled a complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
