The short answer

Police Pay Australia's tools cover pay (a take-home calculator built on each force's award or agreement), fitness (beep test audio, a fitness standards checker and a personalised AI training plan), choosing a force (a quiz), and AI practice for interviews, entrance exams and promotion boards. Free tools need no account; AI tools include free daily practice.

Every tool, by what you're trying to do

Tools are grouped by job: working out pay, preparing for selection with AI practice, getting fit for the test, and choosing a force. Each one is built for Australian policing specifically, using the published rules of NSW Police, Victoria Police, QPS, WA Police, SAPOL, Tasmania Police, NT Police and the AFP.

Free, AI-powered and paid: what the difference is

Our tools fall into three kinds. Free calculators and fitness tools run entirely in your browser from our sourced data: no account, no limits. AI practice tools generate questions or feedback with an AI model and include free daily use. Paid access raises the daily limit and unlocks deeper feedback for a fixed period, with a single payment.

How the AI tools work

  1. 1

You give the tool something to work on

An interview answer, a choice of exam section, a piece of writing, or your fitness numbers.

  2. 2

Our server checks your daily allowance

Each AI feature has a free daily allowance and a higher paid one, plus a site-wide daily ceiling so automated abuse can't run up costs.

  3. 3

The AI model generates the result

We use Google's Gemini models through our own server, with instructions to use Australian English, never claim to be official, and say so when it's unsure of a figure.

  4. 4

    You get feedback in seconds

A score and breakdown, a set of original questions with explanations, marked writing, or a training plan.

AI practice is good for

  • ✓Volume: practising at 2am after a shift
  • ✓Consistency: the same criteria every time
  • ✓Spotting structure problems such as a missing result
  • ✓Fresh questions every set

It isn't a substitute for

  • ✕Your force's official candidate information
  • ✕A real panel member's judgement
  • ✕Medical or fitness advice from a professional
  • ✕The official practice tests for exact exam format

Privacy: what the AI tools send and store

In short

  • ✓ Your answer or form is sent to the AI model to generate feedback
  • ✓ We keep a daily usage count per user to enforce limits
  • ✓ Those usage counters are set to expire after a few days
  • ✓ We don't sell your answers or use them to train models
  • ✓ Card payments go through our payment provider; we don't store card numbers
  • ✓ Free use needs no account; paid use needs a free account

Don't paste anything confidential into an AI tool: no names of real people, case details or other private information. For interview and promotion practice, describe real incidents in general terms, exactly as you would in a panel room.

Full details

Read how we use AI and our privacy policy. If anything looks wrong, our corrections page explains how to tell us.

How we keep the figures accurate

Every pay figure comes from a data file for each force, built from the registered award or enterprise agreement and the force's own recruiting pages, with the source and the date we read it. Fitness standards, entrance tests and academy details come from the same files, so a change only has to be made once to update every tool and page.

Where a number is calculated by us (for example Queensland's recruit training pay, worked out from its 70%-plus-allowance rule) or reported but not yet confirmed, we label it. When we find a conflict between official pages, such as NSW's two different grip-strength figures, we say so rather than picking one quietly. Our editorial policy explains the process in full.

What our tools can't do

General information, not advice

The calculators give estimates from published rules, not your payslip. The AI tools are practice aids, not official assessments. Nothing here is financial, tax, legal or medical advice. For pay questions, ask your force's pay office or your police association; for tax, the ATO or a registered tax agent; for health, your GP.

No tool can guarantee you'll pass an entrance test, a fitness test, an interview or a promotion board. What they can do is help you prepare with more structure and better feedback than reading alone, and help you make decisions about pay and your career with the real numbers in front of you.

Frequently asked questions

Are the police calculators free?

Yes. The take-home pay calculator, beep test audio, fitness test checker and force quiz are free, with no account needed. Some calculators offer an optional paid report with extra detail, such as the Personal Pay Report.

Do I need an account to use the AI tools?

Not for the free daily practice. The site creates an anonymous session in the background so it can count your free uses. If you buy a paid tool you go straight to secure checkout; afterwards you add an email and password so your access is saved to you on any device.

Are the AI tools official?

No. Police Pay Australia is independent and not affiliated with any police force, union, ACER or test provider. The AI tools are practice aids, their questions are original, and AI feedback can occasionally be wrong. Use them alongside your force's official guidance.

What happens to my answers in the AI tools?

Your answer is sent to the AI model through our server to generate feedback. We keep a daily usage count per user to enforce fair-use limits; those counters are set to expire after a few days. We don't sell your answers or use them to train models. See our privacy policy and how we use AI.

Are paid tools a subscription?

No. Every paid tool is a one-off payment with a fixed access period, such as 30 days for the mock interview or 180 days for Entrance Exam Prep. Nothing renews automatically.

When do daily limits reset?

At midnight UTC, which is 10am in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart during standard time and 11am during daylight saving, 10am in Brisbane, 9:30am in Darwin and Adelaide standard time, and 8am in Perth.

How accurate are the pay figures in the calculators?

Pay tables come from each force's award or enterprise agreement, recorded in our data files with the source and the date we read it. Where a figure is calculated by us, or reported but not yet confirmed, the tools and pages say so. Check your payslip or your force's pay office for your exact figures.

Evidence

Sources and how we checked them

Every figure on this page comes from the sources below, read on 10 October 2026. Pay rates and rules change when new agreements are made, so check the source for the date you're reading this. Where we couldn't confirm something from an official source, the page says so instead of guessing. Spotted an error? Read our corrections policy.
