Where the Tasmania Police pay deal stands in October 2026
The deal is done and in the award. Two rises are still to come.
Tasmania Police pay is set by Police Award No. 2 of 2026 (Consolidated), made by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC), President D Barclay, on 4 March 2026 in matter T15311 of 2026. It operates from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2025 and replaces Police Award No. 1 of 2026.
Unusually, the award already contains all four salary columns: the December 2024 base and the rates from December 2025, December 2026 and December 2027. So the two remaining rises happen automatically. Nobody needs to vote again, and no further tribunal decision is needed.

What isn't settled
The government's uplift guarantee, reported when officers accepted the deal, isn't in the salary table. Whether it has been triggered by later state service wage deals is unconfirmed. We explain it in the uplift guarantee section.

Three offers, one deal: how the 2025 negotiations played out
The 2025 round was the most contested in recent Tasmanian policing. Members of the Police Association of Tasmania (PAT) rejected two offers before a small majority accepted the third on 24 December 2025. Vote numbers and the non-pay terms come from news reports, not official documents. The percentages and dates are confirmed in the award.
- 1
First offer rejected
October 2025Nearly 1,000 officers vote against an earlier offer. PAT President Shane Tilley calls it disrespectful.
- 2
Second offer rejected
Reported 14 December 2025An offer of 3%, 3% and 2.75% is rejected. PAT says Tasmanian police earn about 16.8% below the national average (PAT's figure).
- 3
Third offer accepted
Reported 24 December 2025A small majority back the government's third offer, with about 600 voting against. It keeps 3%, 3% and 2.75%, lifts the 24-hour station allowance from 24% to 28% and adds a guarantee of an uplift if other state servants get more. It's funded by reallocating money set aside for 50 new police positions.

Award made by the TIC
4 March 2026Police Award No. 2 of 2026 (Consolidated) is made with the full salary table, a specialist allowance and special leave changes, operative from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2025.
The third offer kept the same percentages as the second. As reported, what changed was the package around them: the higher 24-hour allowance and the uplift guarantee. We haven't seen the offers side by side, so we can't say whether anything else changed between the second and third offers.
The percentages didn't move between offers two and three. The allowance and the guarantee did.
What the deal changed, beyond the percentages
The biggest change for most front-line officers was the shift and penalty allowance for 24-hour rotational rosters, now 28% of normal salary. It's paid instead of all shift, weekend and public holiday penalties, so the same rate applies whether you work nights, weekends or Christmas Day. News reports put it at 24% before this deal; we haven't confirmed the old rate in an official source.

Last column calculated by us: the December 2026 Constable Level 1 salary plus the allowance percentage.
At December 2025 rates, the reported four-point increase in the 24-hour allowance is worth about $2,941 a year to a Constable Level 1 ($73,518 × 4%). That's on top of the 3% salary rise, which is worth $2,141 on its own.
What officers gained
- ✓Three guaranteed rises written into the award, totalling 9.01% compounded
- ✓28% on 24-hour rosters, which rises with every salary increase
- ✓A reported guarantee against other state servants getting more
- ✓A new specialist allowance and special leave changes in the consolidated award
What it cost
- ✕Rises below the 4% SA has proposed and the NT's front-loaded 5% and 4%
- ✕Funded, as reported, by dropping 50 planned new police positions
- ✕The uplift guarantee isn't in the salary table, and its trigger is unclear
- ✕PAT's own figure put Tasmanian pay about 16.8% behind the national average before the deal

All figures read from the award table. Three rises compound to 9.01%. Tasmania has no separate Senior Constable scale: Senior Constable and qualified Senior Constable are titles that each give one accelerated increment within the Constable scale, so Level 13(ii) is the top of the constable range.

Base salary only. Fortnightly figures divide by 26; the award's own formula is annual salary × 10 ÷ the number of weekdays in the financial year, so your payslip may differ by a few dollars. After-tax assumes no HELP debt.
Because shift allowances are a percentage of salary, they rise too. A Constable Level 1 on a 24-hour roster goes from $94,103 to $96,927 including the 28% allowance (our calculation), a gain of $2,824 a year. At the top of the constable scale, Level 13(ii), the base salary rise alone is $3,222.
Overtime moves with it. Constables and Sergeants are paid double time for all overtime, at double the normal salary rate, so each rise also lifts the value of every overtime hour. Compare forces in police overtime and penalty rates.

The uplift guarantee: what it is, and whether it's been triggered
This is the part of the deal most officers ask about, and the part nobody has publicly confirmed.
When officers accepted the third offer, PAT President Shane Tilley said police would "receive an uplift if any other state service employee receives more" (Pulse Tasmania, 24 December 2025). The idea is simple: if the government gave other state servants a better deal later, police wouldn't be left behind.
The award's salary table contains only the 3%, 3% and 2.75% rates. We haven't seen the guarantee's formal wording, so we can't say exactly what has to happen to trigger it or how an uplift would be calculated.
Why the question is live
On 20 March 2026 the Premier announced a three-year package for more than 15,000 state service employees. As summarised in search results (the page blocks automated access), it matched police at 3%, 3% and 2.75%, described as in line with the offer accepted by police. It also included a further boost to salaries for the majority of state servants covered.
If the guarantee compares headline percentages
- ✓The state service headline matched police exactly
- ✓On that reading, no uplift is owed
If it compares total salary outcomes
- ✕The 'further boost' for most state servants could mean they received more
- ✕On that reading, police could be owed an adjustment
Unconfirmed: don't count on an uplift
As at 9 October 2026 we haven't found any statement from PAT, the government or the TIC that the guarantee has been triggered, and no award variation adding an uplift. It may not have been triggered at all. Ask PAT directly, and watch for a variation to the Police Award on the TIC website.
Back pay: how the December 2025 arrears worked
The deal was accepted on 24 December 2025 and the consolidated award was made on 4 March 2026, but it operates from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2025. So for the months between December and the new rates reaching the payroll, officers were owed the difference as arrears.
If you're checking your arrears, compare
- ✓ Base salary at the December 2025 rate against what you were paid, for every fortnight from the operative date
- ✓ The shift and penalty allowance, which is a percentage of salary and so was also owed at the higher rate
- ✓ The 24-hour allowance change from 24% to 28%, if it applied from the same date (the operative date of the allowance change isn't in our sources)
- ✓ Overtime worked in the period, paid at double the normal salary rate
- ✓ Higher duties and any change of level during the period
We haven't found official detail on when the arrears were paid. For the December 2026 and December 2027 rises, no arrears should arise: the rates are already in the award, so payroll can apply them from the right pay period. If your December 2026 pay doesn't show the new rate, raise it with payroll straight away.
What happens after 2027
The award's salary table ends with the December 2027 column. After that, Tasmania Police pay needs a new agreement and a new award variation. We haven't found a published timetable for the next round, or a statement of the government's wages policy beyond the current three-year state service package.

Three-year rise
9.01%
Dec 2024 to Dec 2027, compounded
Two things will shape the next round. First, the comparison with other states: PAT's 16.8% gap claim was central to the 2025 dispute, and SA's proposed 4% a year raises the bar further. Second, the uplift guarantee: if it's never triggered, expect the association to push for clearer wording next time.

First-year figures are base salary before loadings or allowances, so they aren't like-for-like. NT dates are inferred from the agreement's start date.
Tasmania's rises are the lowest of the four in percentage terms, but they're certain and already in the award. SA's 4% a year is only a proposal until members vote and the tribunal approves it; see the SA Police pay deal. The NT front-loaded its deal with 5% and 4% (see the NT Police pay deal), and the AFP's last rise under its current agreement is 2.7% (see the AFP pay deal). For the other four forces, see the police pay deal tracker, which shows the status of every agreement in Australia, and compare current pay scales in police pay in Australia 2026.

Frequently asked questions
When is the next Tasmania Police pay rise?
From the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2026, all award salaries rise by 3%. It's already written into Police Award No. 2 of 2026, so no new vote or tribunal decision is needed. A Constable Level 1 moves to $75,724 and a Trainee Constable to $63,655. The final rise under the deal is 2.75% in December 2027.
What is the Tasmania Police uplift guarantee?
As reported when the deal was accepted, the government guaranteed police would receive an uplift if any other state service employee received a bigger increase. The award itself only contains the 3%, 3% and 2.75% rates, and we haven't seen the guarantee's formal wording, so check its exact terms with the Police Association of Tasmania.
Has the uplift guarantee been triggered?
We can't confirm it either way. The March 2026 state service package matched police at 3%, 3% and 2.75%, but the Premier's announcement also mentioned a further salary boost for most state servants. Whether that counts under the guarantee, and whether police have received or will receive anything, hasn't been confirmed. The Police Association of Tasmania is the best source.
How much is the Tasmania Police 24-hour shift allowance?
28% of normal salary for Constables and Sergeants on a 24/7 rotating roster with at least 80 afternoon or night hours per five weeks. It's paid instead of all shift, weekend and public holiday penalties. For a Constable Level 1 that makes $96,927 from December 2026 (our calculation). News reports say it was 24% before this deal.
Did Tasmania Police get back pay for the 2025 rise?
The award was made by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission on 4 March 2026 but operates from the first full pay period on or after 1 December 2025, so pay between December and March was owed at the new rates. We haven't found official detail on when or how the arrears were paid; check your payslips or ask Payroll Services.
Why did Tasmania Police reject the earlier offers?
Nearly 1,000 officers rejected an offer in October 2025, which the association's president called disrespectful. A second offer of 3%, 3% and 2.75% was rejected in December 2025, when the association said Tasmanian police earned about 16.8% below the national average. The third offer was accepted by a small majority, with about 600 voting against.
Do Tasmanian police get paid overtime?
Yes. Constables and Sergeants are paid double time for all overtime under the award, with time off in lieu hour for hour by agreement and a minimum four hours on call-back. Inspectors and above don't get overtime. Because overtime is paid at double the normal salary rate, each pay rise also lifts the overtime rate.
What happens to Tasmania Police pay after December 2027?
The award's salary table stops at the December 2027 column, so any further rise needs a new deal. We haven't found a published timetable for the next negotiations. Expect talks to start before the last rise is paid; we'll update this page when an offer is made.
