Where the NT Police pay deal stands in October 2026
The deal is agreed, certified and paying. Two rises are still to come.
NT Police are paid under the Northern Territory Police Force Consent Agreement 2025. Members voted 92% in favour on a turnout above 61%, reported on 8 September 2025, and the agreement was filed with the Police Arbitral Tribunal on 12 November 2025. It runs for four years, reportedly from 7 August 2025.
The first two rises, 5% and 4%, appear to have been paid: NT Police's published recruitment rates match the 2024 rates plus both rises to the dollar. That leaves 3% in about August 2027 and 3% or CPI in about August 2028.

What we could and couldn't read
Read this before you rely on any NT figure.
We have not read the 2025 Consent Agreement. The NTPA's copy is in its members-only area, and the Office of the Commissioner for Public Employment (OCPE) and NT Gazette pages were behind a bot challenge that we didn't try to get around. So this page is built from three kinds of source, each labelled.

Our method checks out where it can be tested: taking the 2022 agreement's June 2024 rates and applying 5% then 4%, rounding each step, reproduces all 13 rates NT Police publish, to the dollar. ACPOs get an extra 5% in year one. For ranks NT Police don't publish, we use the same method and mark the result as an estimate.
Estimates are not official rates
Where a figure is marked est., it's calculated by us from the 2022 agreement plus the agreed 2025 increases. The real schedule could differ, for example if the 2025 agreement changed a rank's structure. Use your payslip or the NTPA for your exact rate.
From two rejected offers to a 92% yes
The 2025 round ran for most of the year. The previous agreement, the Consent Agreement 2022, ran from 30 June 2022 to 29 June 2025, with 1% structural plus 3% in 2022, then 3% in 2023 and 3% in 2024.
- 1
First offer refused
28 April 2025The government offers 3% and the removal of Darwin police housing. The NTPA refuses to put it to members.
- 2
Members reject an offer, 81% no
5 August 20251,120 members vote, 81% against. The NTPA criticises a 3% wage cap and what it calls a 'retention bonus lottery'.
- 3
Final offer of 5%, 4%, 3%, 3%
About 15 August 2025A four-year term from 7 August 2025 is put to the NTPA, and the executive endorses it for ballot (from a search snippet of a government bulletin).
- 4
92% vote yes
Reported 8 September 2025Turnout above 61%. The deal includes the CPI guarantee in year four and a 5% structural rise for ACPOs.
- 5
Filed with the Police Arbitral Tribunal
12 November 2025The agreement is finalised and filed with the Tribunal.
Members turned down 3% and a housing cut, then backed 5% and 4% up front by 92%.
What the 2025 agreement changed
From the sources we could read, the main outcomes were the pay rises, CPI protection in year four, housing kept, improved overtime and recognition for ACPOs. The NTPA President listed the outcomes in those terms at the 2026 annual conference.
Confirmed or reported gains
- ✓5% and 4% in the first two years, well above the 3% first offered
- ✓A 5% structural rise for Aboriginal Community Police Officers in year one
- ✓Year four is 3% or CPI, whichever is higher
- ✓Existing police housing retained, according to the NTPA
- ✓Improved overtime, according to the NTPA
Unconfirmed or unknown
- ✕The overtime changes: we only have the 2022 rules (1.5× weekdays, 2× weekends, 2.5× public holidays)
- ✕A $6,500 year-four retention payment, seen only in a search snippet
- ✕How the CLP's milestone retention bonus was implemented; the NTPA says it was limited to members reaching a milestone in 2025
- ✕Any changes to remote incentives, GPA or housing clauses
The allowances that make up much of NT pay are percentages of salary, so they rise automatically with each increase. The 23% Consolidated Allowance is paid to operational members once they're posted (not during training), and the 5% General Policing Allowance (GPA) to members in general policing positions. Housing is separate: eligible members can get free departmental housing or a $33,184 a year housing allowance, which is taxable.
The 2022 agreement has two salary tables, a "seven weeks leave" table and a higher-paying "six weeks leave" table. Constable 1 was $79,675 on the first and $82,143 on the second from June 2024. We use the seven-week table, which matches NT Police's published rates. How a member ends up on each table isn't confirmed.
Scheduled rises and dates
The year-one start date of 7 August 2025 comes from a search snippet of a government fact sheet; another report says increases were paid from 8 August. Later dates are our inference from the annual steps. NT Police's published rates suggest the year-two rise has already been paid, probably from about August 2026.

Fortnightly figures divide by 26. After-tax uses 2026-27 resident rates and the Medicare levy, with no HELP debt, on base salary only. The last column applies to operational members in general policing positions who get both the Consolidated Allowance and GPA; ACPO allowances differ, so we don't show one.
For an operational Constable 1 the package view matters most. NT Police advertise $111,366 for Constable 1 including the allowances, which is $87,005 × 1.28. A 3% rise on that package is worth $3,341 a year, before night shift allowance (15% of base for each night shift), overtime and any remote incentives. Compare forces in police overtime and penalty rates.

Back pay and the payroll problem
The vote came in September and the agreement was filed in November, but the rises date back to about 7 August 2025. That meant several months of back pay for every member, owed on base salary and on anything calculated from it.
At the 2026 NTPA Annual Conference, the President said the payroll system, MyPaysheet, still wasn't aligned with the 2025 agreement, so members had to make manual allowance claims. If you're owed money, it's worth checking line by line.
What to check on your payslips
- ✓ Base salary at the year-one rate from about 7 August 2025, and the year-two rate from about August 2026
- ✓ The 23% Consolidated Allowance and 5% GPA, recalculated on the new salary for the whole back-pay period
- ✓ Night shift allowance (15% of base per night shift worked) at the new rate
- ✓ Overtime worked since August 2025, which is calculated on the salary rate
- ✓ Allowances you claim manually, which the NTPA says the payroll system wasn't applying automatically
- ✓ ACPOs: the extra 5% structural rise from year one
Back pay is taxed using the ATO's back-payment method, so a lump-sum payslip can look heavily taxed. Any over-withholding is sorted out at tax time.
The year-four CPI guarantee, and what comes after 2029
The final rise, about August 2028, is 3% or CPI if CPI is above 3% in year four. That protects members if inflation rises in the back half of the deal. It doesn't top up years two and three if inflation was higher then.

The agreement runs four years from about August 2025, so its last year ends around August 2029. We haven't found a published date for the next round of bargaining or a statement of the NT Government's wages policy for it. Which CPI measure is used, and over what period, is in the agreement text we haven't read.
The new Police Public Safety Officer stream (PPSOs, first sworn in February 2026) sits alongside the agreement. NT Police publish a PPSO rate of $74,069, but how it relates to the agreement's tables isn't confirmed.

First-year figures are base salary before loadings or allowances. NT's 28% in allowances, Tasmania's shift allowance and the AFP's 22% composite are all on top.
The NT front-loaded its deal: 9.2% in the first two years compounded, against Tasmania's 6.1% over the same two steps. SA's proposal of 4% a year is higher in the later years, but it isn't agreed yet; see the SA Police pay deal. For Tasmania's three-offer saga and its uplift guarantee, see the Tasmania Police pay deal. For the other four forces, see the police pay deal tracker, which shows the status of every agreement in Australia, and compare current pay scales in police pay in Australia 2026.

What is the NT Police pay rise for 2025 to 2028?
The 2025 Consent Agreement gives 5% in year one (from about 7 August 2025), 4% in year two, 3% in year three and 3% in year four, or CPI instead if CPI is above 3% in year four. Aboriginal Community Police Officers also got a 5% structural rise in year one. Members voted 92% in favour, on a turnout above 61%.
How much does an NT Police constable earn in 2026?
NT Police publish $87,005 base for Constable 1, from graduation to the end of 12 months, and $111,366 including the 23% Consolidated Allowance and 5% General Policing Allowance. Recruits earn $74,619 for the first four months of training and $79,095 from then to graduation, without allowances.
When is the next NT Police pay rise?
Year three of the agreement is a 3% rise, expected around August 2027. The exact date isn't confirmed: we've inferred it from the agreement's reported start date of 7 August 2025 and its annual steps. Check the NTPA or OCPE for the confirmed date.
Why can't you show the official NT Police 2025 pay table?
The agreement text is in the NTPA members-only area, and the government pages that publish it were behind a bot challenge we didn't try to get around. We use NT Police's published recruitment rates where they exist and estimate the rest from the 2022 agreement plus the agreed rises, labelled as estimates.
Was the NT Police pay deal backdated?
Yes. The rises are reported to be backdated to about 7 August 2025 (one report says 8 August), while the vote was in September and the agreement was filed with the Police Arbitral Tribunal on 12 November 2025. At the 2026 NTPA conference the president said payroll still wasn't aligned with the new agreement for allowances, so members were making manual claims.
Did NT Police keep their free housing?
The government's first offer in April 2025 proposed removing Darwin police housing, and the NTPA refused to put it to members. The NTPA says the final agreement retained existing housing. The housing allowance for eligible members is $33,184 a year, taxable and paid fortnightly.
Is there a retention bonus in the NT Police agreement?
A $6,500 year-four retention payment for members with four or more years' continuous service by 31 December 2028 appears in a search snippet of a government fact sheet, but we haven't confirmed it's in the final agreement. Treat it as unconfirmed until the NTPA or OCPE confirms it.
What does the CPI guarantee mean for NT Police?
In year four, the rise is 3% or CPI if CPI is above 3%. If inflation picks up before then, members get the higher figure. Which CPI measure and which period are used are set in the agreement, which we haven't been able to read.
